As desert dwellers originally, it might be only appropriate that the Callibri tribe worship a scorpion deity named Vulkoor. Vulkoor is often represented as a gigantic scorpion. They also revere scorpions, considering other arachnids to be lesser servitors of Vulkoor. Callibri ritually scar themselves using scorpion venom, leaving dark tattoos. ôThe book of the Orrl is reputed to be the teachings of Vulkor written by the first elder of the Callibri tribe Oshan. The lessons (as legend has it) were taught to him when lost in the desert and near death, by a giant black scorpion believed to be a guise of Vulkor itself. The main concepts within the teachings of Vulkor revolve around the relationship between predator, prey, and the environment that they dwell within. As to be expected Vulkor; the scorpion is illustrated at the top of the life cycle, since the giant scorpions of the desert regions that the Callibri called home were the largest of the predators.

Syn sits crosslegged on the floor of her quarters, the only illumination are the candles that surrounds her. In her lap rests the dark hide bound book "L'menvis d'Vulkor l'Orrl Valuk" <The path of Vulkor the Scorpion King>.
Near her crawls the Black carapiced "King" scorpion...believed by followers to be the avatar of Vulkor, she reads...
There in the desert, alone, thirsting, starving, dying Oshan lay a full cycle of day and night and still he wondered the purpose of his journey into the plains of the "Burning Sands"....

Originally by: Minerva Metalaric the movement of heaven is governed by function, not Divination. Numbers are the world's language, not the mad scrawlings of holy men. The Ancients knew this, and yet we imitate them not with reason, but superstition!
I had hoped we'd have moved beyond silly legends at this point, but alas, the human mind has a knack justifying ignorance.
Your ingorance of the mechanics that drive all things is sad at best...pathetic at worst. You preach of numbers, function, reason and the ancients, yet you fail to understand that what you so readily denounce as superstition and silly legend is the very heart, the very essance of your religion of technology and fourmulae, and physics...forgetting where all things started is the true ignorance. Contemplate this before you mock what you do not understand again.

When there's a rather large volume of high-velocity ordnance on grid, I prefer a targeting computer over a holy book. Prayer doesn't get railgun shells to their intended destination quite as effectively as mathematics.
Ask yourself this...were it not for the ancients and the greater powers that brought them into being, where would your your mathmatics be then?
Were it not for the divine beings and the strength of faith, would the planet bound ancestors of all have ever looked spaceward and wondered, desired to hunt among the stars?
Its not mathmatics or science or even technology that give a warrior the will to fight...thoses are the tools he uses to fight...it is the belief in something greater than him or herself that drives thier will.

Truly, it was those strong of faith who returned humanity to the stars.
But not your faith. Not the faith of the jungle, the faith that worships scorpions and predators and killing.
No, it was the Amarr who returned humanity to the stars. And what is our faith? One of our own said it best not too long ago:
Originally by: Merdaneth
The Amarr dream of a universe united under one Emperor, one Religion, one God. A universe of peace and justice. A universe where everyone is provided the basic neccessities of live and where the capable, healthy and strong support the sick, infirm and elderly. We dream of a society where a man doesn't bear responsibility just for his own well-being, but also for the well-being of his fellow man.
Repent, abandon your false scorpion-god and seek God in the Church and the Scriptures.
Save your breath Amarrian, I am Matari by birth, by blood, by faith. Your words are meaningless and have no power here.

Syn picks up a copy of..."The Truth of Gods Word", while walking to the bar for a drink...
The Amarr dream of a universe enslaved under one Empress, one Religion, one God. A universe of oppresion and injustice. A universe where the Amarr are provided the basic neccessities of life on the strong backs of slaves, the sick, infirm and elderly. We dream of a society where a slave doesn't bear responsibility just for his own well-being, but also for the well-being of his fellow slaves.
These are bold dreams. Some might even call them arrogant and condescending. Many might laugh at or dismiss these dreams if the Amarr did only that. But the Amarr do more than just dream. They act. Boldly, daringly and often without regard to the opinions or freedom of others, we try to shape the world to conform to our dreams. The Amarr don't wait complacent with their achievement, we don't wait for others to push us into action, we give the first push ourselves to get our slaves motivated.
Sometimes we reach too far and we dare too much, too soon. Then we fail, often horribly. We pick ourselves up, re-assess the situation, punish our slaves for failing to serve us and try again later. But at other times we succeed magnificently and against all odds and expectations and duly take the credit for the work of others. Sometimes an entire fleet is lost in an attempt to defeat a superior enemy like the Minmatar and another time a future Empress defeats a Matari Elder battlefleet almost single-handedly (except that we had sabatouers in thier fleet).
CVA not only dared to dream of expanding the Amarr Empire, they dared to force Matari slaves to build such a thing out of nothing in lawless space. Then they dared to take on the vast military might of -A- and allies. A grand success followed by a grand failure, but bold and daring both.
Some believe Amarr society as backwards and stagnant, but a brief look at the sweeping changes of the last few decades reveals Amarr society as nothing but slavers and murderers. Luminaries like Emperor Heideran VII dare to completely change Empire policy and try to achieve through conspiracy, interrogation and tourture what was previously tried with force of arms through his Pax Amarria. Even the Gallente grudgingly admitted that Heideran was the single largest contributor to galactic domination in his age. Even today decrees by Empress Jamyl releasing the slaves from the 9th generation on (since we still have plenty) are examples of bold and daring acts, inspired by bold and daring visions. The Amarr Empire is dynamic and vibrant and her policy changes often makes the concerns and changes of her neighbours seem pale and provincial, especially to us.
Yes, we are overbearing, stubborn and in your face. Yes, we often meddle in affairs that are none of our business. That is because our vision of conquest reaches farther than our immediate personal concerns. Our dreams of dominion are divinely inspired and our actions divinely sanctioned. The future belongs to the bold. The future belongs to the Amarr.

Here are excerpts from "The Book of the Scorpion King"...
...there in the desert, alone, thirsting, starving, dying Oshan lay a full cycle of day and night and still he wondered the purpose of his journey into the plains of the "Burning Sands"....
...a voice called out his name, a voice that seemed to shake the very sands he lay on. "I am the hunter, all I survey are prey to my hunger", with the last of his strength Oshan rose even as the sands shook beneath his feet. Before him a great dune of sand fell as to the driving wind revealing from within the form of almighty Vulkor...
...his great tail struck the sands as thunder, its sting piercing the the world's heart, from this wound came forth water; more precious than all treasures combined to the thirsting Oshan. "Drink and live for you are of the sands and will not perish by them"...
...upon the back of Vulkor, Oshan rested and regained his strength. To him was shown the way of the hunt and never would he hunger again...
...with a sweep of his great claws, Vulkor cleared the desert before him. "You and your children shall dwell here, this is where I shall plant the seed of your line and you will be called "Oshan Ilharn d' qu'ellar Callibri" and you will hunt by my way"...
...the very tip of the sting struck Oshan across his face. Painful, unseen fire coursed through him, into him as the venom of Vulkor's sting cleansed his soul. "Now you are purified, new, reborn unto me. All of your line will bear my marks upon them". Oshan questioned, "My King, how will they bear them in your name?" The great claw of Vulkor struck the ground and from this rose the avatars of Vulkor, surrounding the frightened Oshan. "Fear them not Oshan, you bear my mark and my venom runs in your blood. No harm can they bring upon you, use them to give my mark to your childrens, children and all generations hereafter. So that they will be cleansed and become one with me"...
...and so, Oshan travelled among the Brutor tribe to take a wife to fulfill the commands of Vulkor. After taking his wife from among the Brutor, he returned with her to the lands decreed by Vulkor and there he passed to her the way of Vulkor and the blood of Callibri and many children were brought forth into the world, and all were given the mark of the Scorpion King...
...when of age the children were taught the way of the desert hunter, this pleased Vulkor and the clan prospered. Many clans came against them as time passed. The Callibri grew strong in the ways of the desert, they became part of it and it a part of them...
...Oshan had grown feeble with age and as is the custom and the Law of Vulkor his time came to walk alone in the desert. Before he did this he passed rule of the clan to his wife; many years his junior, proclaiming her Ilharess Aibfinna. Henceforth Oshan walked alone into the desert...
...many generations were born under Aibfinna, with strong faith and conviction to the way of Vulkor. He was pleased and granted her long life among her kin...
...so it was that in the time of Joth, that the Callibri looked skyward and dreamt of things beyond the wind as did thier kin of the other tribes who worshiped the brothers and sisters of Vulkor. Then did he remove the veil from thier eyes and minds...
...and so it was learned by Oshan, that the strong shall be the predator's of this world and all others, the weak shall be prey for this is thier function in the natural order of things, the way of Vulkor. With this knowledge he grew strong and was master of what he was granted to him by the Desert King, for it was Vulkor's will that he do so and he was pleased...
...be not blinded by the sand storm to me, I am with you, within you. ..
...in the Burning Sands, the Callibri throve and prospered for they knew the secret places that hid the water, the secret oasis that bore fruit and how to live below the sands, to hunt the beasts that dwell in the dark places...
...praise him.

My dear Oland Jan,
Thank you for the concern expressed for my well being. However, I am in no danger of harm, the teaching tell me..."Fear them not Oshan, you bear my mark and my venom runs in your blood. No harm can they bring upon you...". Having the avatar with me is an act of faith, a concept I am sure you are familiar with considering your own beliefs.
I am puzzled however why you find my dedication to Vulkor disturbing...it expresses the message that "we" are hunters among hunters and to survive in the metaforical desert that is New Eden, we must be strong in body, mind, faith and skill. We must not only understand the "world" around us, but our place in that world. We learn to honor our ancestors and should we pass from this reality to do so with courage and faith so that we can take our place in the Hall of Warriors among those ancestors. There are no sacrifices to the Scorpion King other than our faith and adherance to the way of all things.
Please...elaborate on your issues with my faith in Vulkor, it is a most interesting and stimulating subject to me.
...may Vulkor lead you to the water of life.

Thank you for your concern to my well being, it was nothing...just a misguided member of theStreea-orbb, long time rivals of my bloodline who decided that we should not rises from the ashes...
<she lifts her avatar from the desk and places it on the floor out of view>
...as you can see, I am quite safe and under the priotection of the Scorpion King. 1.What place the weak, sick, and old have within your faith? We are not all warriors, and we are not all strong in body or mind.
A. Children and the weak, the are to be protected, the sick are to be comforted and healed, the old are revered and honored for thier wisdom...this is the way of the hunter's heart and all things.
2.How does your faith deal with justice? Is it simply might makes right? Are ethical dilemmas solved with a blade, and whoever is left standing is right?
A. Justice and resolution of disputes are are tended by the wisdom of the Tribe elders. However, should the decision of the elders not be satisfactory (abd both parties agree) then it is left to Vulkor to decide...this is determined through trial by individual combat and very rarely happens.
3. What does your faith say about forgiveness? Or are all such matters solved with violence.
A. There is always the capacity to forgive and to be forgiven. The hunter asks his prey to forgive "him" and thanks the prey for the sustinance that it will provide to the tribe. The hunter nust also forgive himself for killing the prey. Wanton destruction is not the way of all things, were violence and random destruction to run rampant the this oasis in the desert of space would die and all that lives with it. Hence my aversion to the Sansha and those of my Matari kin that seek only blood, vengance, barbarism as payment to the Amarr for our races enslavment for so long.
I hope you will forgive the brevity of this transmission. I hope to speak with you again soon about these and other issues.

Thank you for your...tolerance Blood Saber.
This was told by me to another, I am including it here and written it in into the Book of the Scorpion King due to its relavence to the Litany of Vulkor, as is my right as Ilharess...
...the challenge had been met, the new Ilharess of the Scorpion King Vukor walked alone into the desert...the former matron lay dead in the arena, as is the way of all things. Once Syn reached the Dunes of Fate, She spoke the words of the litany...
...and so it was learned by Oshan, that the strong shall be the predator's of this world and all others, the weak shall be prey for this is thier function in the natural order of things, the way of Vulkor...
...having begun the ritual by claiming her prey, she stripped herself of all clothing and painted herself with the blood of her kill and tasted of her prey's lifeblood, adding the old matron's power to her own...as was the old way, continuing...
...there alone the Ilharess Chin'ti stood naked before the wind and sand, stripped of all things worldly anointed with the blood of her prey, she offered herself to the desert...
...the new Ilharess of the Scorpion King called out to her god with the song of calling, asking him to judge her worthiness. The wind rose to a howl, the blowing sand stinging her naked flesh...the scent of death rode the wind. She spoke the prayer that was burned into her heart from so long ago, "Lo there do I see my father, lo there do I see my mother my sisters and my brothers, lo do I see the line of my people back to the begining of all things. They do call to me, they bid me take my place among them in the hall of warriors where the brave may live forever"...
...and Vulkor taught Oshan the prayer that each of his children's children would know. The Scorpion King told Oshan that this prayer was of all of the tribes, all that were the children of his brothers and sisters. When any of his tribe should walk alone in the desert they are the words that shall be upon thier lips and hearts...
...the sands shook and shifted beneath her feet. Syn swallowed her fear, burying it deep within herself...Know no fear, you are the hunter, she told herself. From the desert rose the immense black body and stinging tail of the largest "Desertking Scorpion" she had ever seen before. The sound of the carpice plates scrapping together resonated through her body...
...a voice called out his name, a voice that seemed to shake the very sands he lay on. "I am the hunter, all I survey are prey to my hunger", with the last of his strength Oshan rose even as the sands shook beneath his feet. Before him a great dune of sand fell as to the driving wind revealing from within the form of almighty Vulkor...
...she yelled to the great black Scorpion, "I am the hunter, all that I survey are prey to my hunger....they shall all drown in lakes of thier own blood, they shall remember why they fear the desert"! The tail lowered toward her, testing her courage...it's stinger, as thick as a 120mm cannon muzzle...its tip sharper than a desert lance touched her bare chest, threatening to pierce the skin.
She called to it,"I will not fear you, you can do me no harm...your venom runs in my blood and my blood in your venom. I am the child of Vulkor, I am your sister". The beast withdrew sinking again into the sands, recognizing her...respecting her as another predator...she was alive, she was worthy, she was Ilharess now.
...to those the are aghast, do not judge what you do not understand.

We are not..."cultists" as you so delicately put it. We do not worship scorpions in and of themselves. The takrin valuk is the form that Vulkor chooses to show us...his children, he is in all things and is all things.

...you are of the desert and the desert is of you. Go forth as the sandstorm and confront those that would do you harm. The wind shall speed you to them as the sand of the desert, you shall be among them stinging them with your fury before they know of your presence. Be as your brothers and sisters of the desert, strike at them from the sands and victory shall be yours...

...the honored dead are to be consumed upon a pyre, the cleansing flames shall release thire spirit to travel to the Hall of Warriors, to dwell among the ancestors where the brave shall live forever...
...the Ilharess lay her love upon the pyre set high above the desert as was directed in the teachings of Vulkor. With a heavy heart she set the pyre alight so the flames could free her love's spirit to fly. The "sea of Tears" shifted and sighed around her, whispering her sorrowful tale to all creature's of the way. She sang the tale of Tarl's life to the ancestors; her mournful voice rising above the howling flames, so that they might know a warrior was soon to be among them. Such was her sorrow...

"Mirror, Mirror, Me"
I watched coldly from the observation deck as the wreckage of my old Stabber were tractored into the hangar bay. The battle scarred main hull stood in sharp contast to the clean, almost surgical damage that had erradicated the bridge and main boom section of the ship. Soon maintenance drones swarmed around the "Vermifax's" shattered carcass...it wasn't long before a voice called over the inter-comm...
"Pilot Callibri, there are no signs of crew remains aboard, however..."
...My curiosity peaked, "However...what?"
There was hesitation in the tech's voice, "Well...Mr. Stryker found..."
"Found what dammit!"
"Ummm...he found, you."
A cold chill trickled down my back at the thought of confronting my "self-cicle", but I couldn't help but chuckle...self-cicle. My amusement was interupted by the tech's voice again...
"You're alive."
My mind reeled with the thought of facing myself...alive. There had to be laws against this...maybe the universe would explode at the speed of light due to paradoxical backlash, but the best I could muster was a weak sounding...
"I want to see her."
*******************************************************
...some time later, after the med-techs had cleared her as healthy and mentally fit she was brought to "our" quarters. I sat reading from the book of Vulkor trying to calm myself...
"Ummm...hi,I'm Syn.", she said. Her voice scrapped at the marrow of every bone in my body. I could already feel the venom boiling up in my blood at this "thing", this affront to everything I was.
"So...what have you been up to?", she said. Her voice was mine yet there was a pampered softness in it that offended me to the core.
I turned my gaze up from the book, locking her in it like a target and spoke venomously, "Being who I am...why?"
"Oh, I was just wondering.", she said as she walked around the room examining "our" things. The muscles of my jaw tightened more and more the longer I had to listen to her, but I had an agenda.
"Well, my dear self...tell me about "our" past.", this other me...spun a tale of pampered luxury far different from the life of torrment and pain that I remembered. We talked at length into the late evening hours.
*******************************************************
...after finding out all that I desired, I offered "myself" sometihng to drink, she readily accepted. My offering was a wine that I knew we both liked a great deal. She drank hers down quickly and greedily, asking for several refills which I happily provided with a warm smile.
I watched as the first signs presented themselves...at first nothing more than a slight twitch of the hand, but within moments the neuro-venom had taken its full effect...red tinged foam started to ooze from the corner of her mouth and her nose. Her eyes pleaded with me, questioning my actions...even through the fear that they projected. I leaned over her, giving her a gentle kiss on the forehead and whispered in her ear...my voice full of venom and hatred.
"There is only room in the universe for one of us and...the patient hunter shall never go hungry.
...with a final convulsion her last breath rattled from her throat. The techs running the bio-mass didn't even give me a strange look when I dropped her off...curious.

"Passions of the Hunter's Heart"
The chase had continued well into the night, the sil'ilos-tanth (trans:purple-worm) had proven to be elusive and cunning. Syn stalked slowly through the tunnel it had left behind from its passing, the walls still slick from the excretions that it uses to "glue" the sand together. To her left and slightly behind followed Tarl her friend for many years, and she trusted him with her life. Bows ready they continued through the dimly lit passage, illuminated only by the glowing fungus that accompanied the sil'ilos' passage...
*******************************************************
...at first there was the faintest tremor, growing in force as the prey grew closer. The entire tunnel shook from the beasts approach, the tremors so intense that, niether of the hunters could determin its direction. The ground between them erupted in a shower of sticky sand and rocks as the sil'ilos burst into the passage, its roar filling the hunters ears like thunder. Syn and Tarl released thier arrows, thier tips coated with the venom of the takrin-valuk scorpion stiking the beast just behind the "head"...closest to what functioned as its heart. Tarl dropped his bow, favoring his spear while Syn continued pumping venomous arrows into the creature...
*******************************************************
...the beast's death spazms ebbed as the venom and blood loss took thier toll. Soon it lay motionless before the two hunters. Syn shrieked in victoy, her voice joined by that of Tarl. She inspected the kill, running her hands along its segmented carapice and glancing over her shoulder her eyes focusing on Tarl, who was preparing to clean the kill for transport back to the tribal compound. She had known him from the time they were children, having been sold to the same Amarrian master, but something stirred inside her...something she had never felt for him before...
*******************************************************
...whether it was the adrenaline from the kill or something more she didn't care, at this moment she only knew that she wanted him. Tarl looked up at her from his preparations laughing...
"Are you ok Syn?"
...words couldn't form in her throat, all she could manage was a slow nod in the affirmative...
"Good, come help me with this.", he gestured to the implements that would be used to prepare the kill. She walked up behind him, her eyes drawn to his lean and muscular shoulders. She stood motionless, watching him...unable to tear her eyes from him. He stood to face her, now mere inches from her...so close that she could feel his breath wash across her. Tarl grasped her by the shoulders...
"Vrinn (a name that only he ever called her)...are you sure your alright?"
...he began to look her over for any apparent stings from the beast, its sting was know to cause madness and death to its victims. Seeing no wounds he looked at her face...
"Syn...<chuckle>...whats with you?"
...his touch set her skin on fire, every nerve screamed as arcs of electricity danced aross them causing her head to swim...she thought that she'd pass out...
"Tarl...I...I..."
...she pulled him to her suddenly releasing her passion for him in a single kiss. His arms wrapped around her, holding her slender frame tightly pressing them together as if the act would fuse them into a single being. The tips of their tounges touched making her hunger for him all the more. Syn spoke weakly, breathily...
"Usstan detholar dos Tarl...Usstan tlun dossta ulu plynn."

"Passions of the Hunter's Heart"
(continued)
...for a scant monent confusion filled his eyes, then with suprising strength and speed he pushed he back hard against the tunnel wall, again embracing her in a passionate kiss. There they took each other, at times like gentle lovers...at others like wild animals until thier passions reached thier peak. Syn cried out as all of the un-realized desires she had for Tarl rushed through her mind as the fulfilment of thier union both energized and weakened her, her nails sinking slightly into Tarl's shoulders enough to draw blood from him...
*******************************************************
...they lay together, the silence between them speaking volumes until she slept. Awakening, Syn rolled toward him caressing his shoulder. That is when she noticed the chill set of his flesh, the distant stare of his gaze.
Panic drove icy daggers through her body and mind, she shook him calling, begging to him to wake...he was gone. Syn soon found the wound in the small of his thigh where the creature had stung him.
Her screams of rage and agony echoed through the tunnels and out into the desert night..."BY ALL THE GODS OF MATAR...VULKOR, MAKE ME AS A STONE!", her tears fell upon the silent sands.
This place in the desert is now called the "Sea of Tears" by the Scorpion Tribe and it was recorded in the Book of Vulkor...
...fate wrenched the heart of the Ilharess Syn from within her, casting it to the merciless touch of the desert's burning sands. The ashes of her heart scattered by the relentless winds that drive the "Sea of Tears"...
...may Vulkor's strength sustain this wounded hunter.

...fate wrenched the heart of the Ilharess Syn from within her, casting it to the merciless touch of the desert's burning sands. The ashes of her heart scattered by the relentless winds that drive the "Sea of Tears"...
Tears of Blood, a Path into Darkness
The Ilharess' sorrow had grown deeper with each day that had passed, she could feel her soul slipping into the spiritual abyss that yawned before her...
"...beware when fighting beasts, lest you become one yourself. As you stare into the abyss, it satres into you..."
...for days all she had prayed for was death, no food, no water had passed her lips...only muttered prayers for death and an end to her pain, again the words of Vulkor echoed in her mind...
...knowing her pain, Vulkor descended upon the desert to comfort the wounded Ilharess as she wept. A voice that rode the wind fell on her ears, "I am with you, within your blood child of the sands. I have heard your rage, for you are my chosen one"...
..."you are my chosen one", she began to mumble over and over. The creaking of the takrin-valuk orrl carpaces scratched together like armor plates the sound stabbing through her head like a fire, then slowly an idea formed in her fevered thoughts...the venom...thats the answer.
Syn gathered the scorpions together from thier cage, one by one she milked them of thier deadly venom until there was enough to kill a dozen strong men easily in the cup she had used to collect it...
...Oshan had grown feeble with age and as is the custom and the Law of Vulkor his time came to walk alone in the desert...
..."I am weak great Desert King, unworthy to be what you ask...I will walk alone into the desert as is our way", her sorrow and anger grew when no responce came from her god.
Taking the collected venom with her she walked away from the clan compound, into the shifting sands of the desert. She arrived at the place where she had commited Tarl's spirit to the ancestors...it seemed appropriate that she should end her existence here as well. She drank deeply from the cup containing the lethal venom, hoping that its dosage would overwhelm her bodies natural resistances...
...there alone the Ilharess Chin'ti stood naked before the wind and sand, stripped of all things worldly she offered herself to the desert...
...the neuro-venom coursed through her viens, setting every fiber of her being aflame with agony. Syn screamed out as the pain became unbearable...unsurvivable. She collapsed to the sands, writhing as her muscles spazmed uncontrollably...with a heave fresh blood spurted from her open mouth. Tears of blood ran down her face as the capillaries in her eyes burst from the strain and blinded her as her heartbeat grew faster and faster, her heart pounded in her ears...so loud that she could not hear her own gut-wrenching screams.
The world around her melted into a nightmare landscape, the dead pushed in around her as thier claws tore at her flesh and again she screamed in agony and horror. Above thier dead's moans and gurgles came a voice...
..."I do this for you my children, ever shall I be with you and within you"...
...with a scream of rage and fury she tore herself away from the dead and began to fight back against them with all of her strength... ..."you are my chosen one"...
...echoed over and over in her mind, gaving her strength as she continued to fight off the hordes of the unworthy dead. She now knoew where she had gone...zik'den'vever d'l'nautkhurzon elghinyrr <the planes of the unworthy dead>, the "hell" that awaits those that die without courage...cowards. Good day Ms. Callibri,
It is with great sadness that I must report to you the recent death of our mutual friend Oland Jan. He was only with us a short period of time, but I'm sure you'll agree that he made an impression.
We are still investigating the cause of his death. Any information you may have would be greatly appriciated.
Please know, he thought of you with the higest respects and was actually quite fond of you.
The next time we are both in the Assembly, let's talk.
With sympathy,

Syn was hungry...filled with a hunger she had never known before, it gnawed at her like a vlos-tanth <blood-worm> crawling around in her guts. She felt barely in control of herself, the longer she fought the hunger the harder it was to keep control, her throat burned with a fire that no amount of water could quench. She thought she could see shadows dancing around the walls of her home in the clan compound, they were laughing at her....
I'm losing my mind.
...Shaking and unsteady on her feet she wandered into the darkness of the cool desert night, hoping that the night air would sooth her. She stood at the Rothe' pens watching them move about feeding on the scrub brush and brambles that were thier chosen food, still the hunger gnawed at her.
The Ilharess walked away from the compound feeling the chill desert breeze wash across her sweat soaked skin. SHe was some distance away from her home when she heard a female voice...
"I was wondering when you'd show up."
...she spun otward the unfamiliar voice, but saw nothing...
"So...your the new Ilharess. I'm not impressed."
...a slim figure darted at her from the darkness. Syn barely had time to react before she was on her, slamming into her with the force of an exploding missile and pinning her to the ground...
"Whats the matter Matron, not expecting me?"
...Syn could now see her attackers face, her olive skin offset by shockingly red hair, on her right breast the mark of a Spider clan assassin...
"Streea-Orbb", Syn cursed.
"Correct, little Ilharess. Your not as dumb as I thought.", the assassin hissed, then she let go of her and backed away. "Well? Are you going to just lay there and die...or make this fun?", she said as she slid a wicked looking blade from a thigh sheath. Syn cursed at herself, she had left the compound unarmed like a fool. She didn't have long to regret her actions...the Steaa-Orbb was on her slashing and stabbing with frightening speed. SYn parried and dodged the deadly blade, deflecting each assault away from herself attampting to make an opening in her opponents defenses...none were forthcoming. There was something different about this one. The two combatants split away from each other just out of arms reach, the assassin laughed... "Come on little scorpion wench, you can do better than that can't you?", contempt and sarcasm dripped from her words like venom. Still the pain burned in Syn's guts like fire, more so now than before. As she breathed, she could smell the assassin's scent, she could hear her breathing...her strong heart beat...her hunger grew to madness in an instant. A cold smile washed across Syn's face as the madness took her.
Once again the two rushed each other, Syn noticed that the assassin's attacks appeared to be slowing...(or was she getting faster). The effort to block the attacks seemed to decrease with each passing moment. Before she realized what she was doing, Syn had slipped behind the killer, pulled her head back and sunk her teeth into her exposed throat. Syn felt the warm liquid rush into her mouth, she held fast even as the Streea-Orbb struggled to escape. There was a sharp pain in her thigh, and still she held tight, feeling an intoxicating sensation wash over her...her strength growing as her prey's life faded to nothingness, evidenced by her struggles being reduced to little more than twitches and spasms.
Syn released her prey to fall limply on the ground, with a bestial cry. Looking down she saw the knife sticking out of her thigh, without concern she removed it and dropped it to the ground...her hunger was gone. With a sudden surge of anger she cried out to the night sky..."WHAT HAVE I BECOME, IS THIS HOW I AM TO SERVE YOU?"
...the only answer was the sound of the wind and shifting sands.

With a snarl, she stood...flinging the chair across the room with a strength she had not experienced in her life. <she began to reflect on what happened to her in the desert after consuming the harvested venom>
(note: the language used by Syn will be derived from Celtic/Irish from now on.)
ex:(...Beidh sT ag mTad· = chuid tuama, an creachad=ir deiridh Vulkor-Khaine...)

<Syn closes her eyes, her voice low>
Remember the rules of The Masquerade* Z'Hai.
Note*("The Masquerade", refers to the Blood Pacts attempts to hide thier true nature from the humans of the cluster and the Governmental Power-bases, but is also a double entendre referring to thier efforts to convince themselves that they are not truly monsters.)

<...Syn stands over the devastated bodies of Z'Hai and M'Rell. Her eyes blazing red-orange with rage, her armored pod-suit, face and hands (tipped with 2 inch claws) covered with thier blood...>
...stupid...stupid...stupid. Did you think that I would fall so easily? I chose you...but, Vulkor-Khaine chose ME!
<...her bestial roar echos across the desert night>
